Modding and mapping tools will be available in the PC release of Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, the developer has announced. Unfortunately, the tools won’t be released until sometime next year, but there will be a closed alpha testing period in March 2016.
The modding tools will allow creative players to design their own maps and game modes for others to enjoy. There will also be dedicated servers for custom games and modded content, separate from non-modded lobbies and the like.
It’s great news for PC players who have cried out loud every year for official modding support. It seems that Treyarch and Activision have been listening and this will no doubt help boost the player numbers and keep them high for a quite a while. Call of Duty games typically start off strong on the PC, but the lifetime player count drops dramatically when compared to consoles.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will release on November 6th for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. Remember: The last-gen versions don’t come with a single-player campaign, only the multiplayer and zombies. You can see some footage and screenshots of the last-gen version here.
