Get blocked, mate
Czech development studio Immersive Division has announced a brand new VR project for Meta Quest 2 and PCVR headsets, and it’s a twist on the familiar.
BlockStar VR is the name and shooting many, many blocks is the game. The studio released the first official trailer for BlockStar VR today and if you’ve played any number of rhythm-based VR games, like Beat Saber or Synth Riders, you’ll get the idea behind the game very quickly.
Players take to the stage in a futuristic tournament where they must survive a constant onslaught of various blocks that barrel towards them. Some can be shot, others must be avoided.
BlockStar VR will give players an arsenal of weapons to use as they compete to be crowned BlockStar VR champion through the game’s story mode. Shotguns, beam guns, shields, and much more can be unlocked through play, with each weapon and tool having its own uses during gameplay. There are even bonuses that further enhance play as life-saving additions or game-winning tools.
Outside of the main campaign, there’s a whole lot more to do in the form of challenges where players are tasked with beating a mission with a certain weapon, or within a set time, or any other parameters the game throws up. Replayability is key, and it looks like the developers of BlockStar VR have taken note.
There doesn’t seem to be much by way of multiplayer, though the press release does state that there are leaderboards if you want to flex on your mates with your mad skills, so it does at least have the bare minimum required for some bragging rights.
BlockStar VR has been announced for Meta Quest 2 and PCVR headsets, though it could well release on PSVR, or maybe even PSVR 2 at a later date. For now, the game has only been announced for the aforementioned platforms with a planned release window of Q2 2022. Not too long of a wait, then.
