If you’re wondering whether the Master Sword can break in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, we’ve got the answers in this guide. The Master Sword is the only weapon in the game that you get to keep forever, but it’s not quite as simple as that.
We’ll explain everything you need to know about the Master Sword’s durability below.
Can the Master Sword break in Tears of the Kingdom?
Interestingly, the answer is both yes and no. The Master Sword doesn’t technically break, but it does run out of energy, meaning you can’t use it constantly.
The Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom works similarly to the one from Breath of the Wild. Both swords will stick around in your inventory, and you can’t lose them, but before long it will run out of energy and you’ll have to wait for it to recharge.
This effectively means the weapon is temporarily broken, as you can’t equip it until it recharges. This doesn’t take very long, but if it breaks in the middle of a fight with a bunch of Bokoblins you’ll have to use other weaponry for the rest of the battle.

How to obtain the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom
Getting your hands on the Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom can be challenging. It’s actually stuck in the head of a Light Dragon which circles the Hyrule map, and you’ll have to fly up high to reach it in the game.
The best way to do this is by waiting for the Light Dragon to pass near a Skyview Tower or an island in the sky. Then, use them to get the height you need to reach it. You will have to land on top of the dragon and make your way to its head.
It’s very important that you have at least 2 full stamina wheels before you do this. You need that much stamina to pull the Master Sword out.
Once you have it in your possession, you can use it to your heart’s content – just remember it can run out of energy.
