Danganronpa V3 and Danganronpa 3 Given New Trailers

The next chapter(s) in the Danganronpa franchise have been outlined at a special Danganronpa Presentation Press Conference earlier today. The visual novel based trial-em-up franchise will be getting a game called New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Killing, and an anime called Danganronpa 3.

No, I didn’t just have a despair-induced stroke and start repeating myself, that’s a game and an anime, both effectively called Danganronpa 3, both coming out next year. Their details and trailers are as follows:

New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Killing

Releasing on both the PS4 and PSVita in 2016, the remarkably titled “New Danganronpa V3: Everyone’s New Semester of Killing” will be a completely new chapter in the series, featuring the no doubt colorful cast of “Gifted Inmates Academy”, which sounds like a criminal version of the first game’s “Hope’s Peak Academy”. The game’s theme is “psycho cool”, and the game appears to feature a robot as the protagonist. Awesome. According to Gematsu, players will be able to lie in trials, which you’d think would violate the laws of robotics. I am, of course, speculating that the robotic individual who is centre stage in the poster is the protagonist. Trailer below:

Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy

Airing in 2016, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy will apparently wrap up the Hope’s Peak Academy saga that Danganronpa 1 and 2 focused on. The anime will air in 2016, and according to series creator Kazutaka Kodaka its content “can only be expressed through anime”. Mysterious and intriguing. Check out the trailer below:

Additionally, another spinoff manga was announced that will apparently follow the adventures of everyone’s favorite comic relief sidekick, Kazuichi Soda from Danganronpa 2. It will be titled “Super Danganronpa 2: Kazuichi Soda in Desperate Causality”.

For the uninitiated who probably wonder what exactly has been assaulting their visual cortex for the earlier parts of this article, the Danganronpa series is sort of like Battle Royale meets Phoenix Wright. 16 students are locked in a school/island/city together and must commit the perfect murder to escape. It’s up to you as the protagonist to solve the murders and save yourself and your friends/enemies/frienemies from execution. There was also a third person shooter spinoff called “Danganronpa: Another episode”, or “Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls” outside of Japan. If all these bright colourful trailers with black and white bears in them interest you, you can pick up Danganronpa 1: Trigger Happy Havoc, Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair! and Danganronpa: Ultra Despair Girls all for the PSVita or Vita TV.
