Being such a crucial part of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, players wonder where the Divine Beasts were in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you aren’t sure what happened to them in the game, strap in for the story as it will be a bit of a long one.
What happened to the Divine Beasts in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?
As of right now, the whereabouts of the Divine Beasts in Tears of the Kingdom is mainly up to speculation, as they’re notably absent from the Breath of the Wild sequel.
In Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the Divine Beasts were corrupted by Calamity Ganon, an event that happened and devastated Hyrule. The Divine Beasts were previously buried, as their powers were too strong.
They were then unearthed to help defend Hyrule against Calamity Ganon, being powered by the likes of Mipha, Daruk, Revali and Urbosa.
However, all of the Sheikah technology has disappeared by the time Tears of the Kingdom comes around, and it seems to be one of the major plotholes of the game. Considering how they were corrupted by Ganon, it is theorised that Zelda and Purah could have worked to take them apart and use them for parts, but it is uncertain.
Even if you scan Amiibos of the Champions who worked with the Divine Beasts, you will only get specific Helms that match up with their characters.
Theories about the Divine Beasts in Tears of the Kingdom
However, the most prominent theory in the community is that the Sheikah tech has gone back underground, as one of the post-credits scenes in Zelda: Breath of the Wild shows Princess Zelda stating that Divine Beast Vah Ruta has “stopped working”.
So, this could support the theory that they were deactivated and sent back underground to be buried for another Calamity.
None of the Divine Beasts nor the Sheikah technology is ever mentioned in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, almost as if those events happened. It is bizarre, but maybe for the best.
There are plenty of theories whirling around, but we’ll have to wait for a concrete answer from Tears of the Kingdom’s creators or potential DLC.
