Sonic moves at the speed of sound, but is there any fast travel in the open zone areas of Sonic Frontiers? It would be handy, but is it unnecessary for a game that has you running at an incredible pace? Find out below.

Can You Fast Travel in Sonic Frontiers?
Sonic Frontiers lets you explore whole islands at breakneck speed and even gives you a map of everywhere you’ve been. However, you cannot activate fast travel within the game, which is weird for an “open zone” game like this.
On the map menu, you can do multiple things to help you get to where you need to be. You can place a marker on where you’d like to go and an orange-tinged beam will appear in the world around Sonic and mini-map. You can also isolate the busy icons into categories with the shoulder buttons of your controller: L1 and R1 for PlayStation, for example. On the left side of the map, you can see all of these chaos emeralds you’ve collected and your overall stats.
There is a fast travel option, but it’s underwhelming and more complicated than it needs to be. You’ll have to fish with Big The Cat and find scrolls in the water. Once you pick one out, it will unlock fast travel for the specific island Sonic is on. However, this fast travel is only between the Elder Koco and the Hermit Koco, so it’s a bit underwhelming.
In addition to the lack of a fast travel option between checkpoints, you can’t play the game in co-op either.
To be completely honest, a fast travel option isn’t particularly necessary. It’s thrilling to blast around these landscapes as Sonic, especially if you have his soap shoes on from Sonic Adventure 2.

What Side Missions Are There In Sonic Frontiers?
There is all manner of side missions you can complete in Sonic Frontiers. You can complete challenges within the cyberspace levels like finding all of the red coins or clearing the stage with an S rank. Finishing them will give you vault keys you can use to unlock the chaos emeralds. Additionally, there are mini-bosses you can defeat for experience points that can be utilized for new abilities. Hopefully, the side missions won’t get repetitive for you, however.
