Games, games, and more games

Sony’s latest State of Play, March 9th, 2022, had games. That’s no surprise. But there were a couple of surprises. Maybe you didn’t get to watch the show because it was shown at a really late time in the UK and Europe. Maybe you just couldn’t pull yourself away from Elden Ring. No worry. We got you.

Here’s everything that was announced during March 9th’s State of Play.

Exoprimal – A New Dinosaur Game From Capcom

Capcom gave us a first look at its latest new IP: Exoprimal. In a world where it seems to rain dinosaurs so frequently that they can be forecasted, players will take on the role of Leviathans to lay down the smack on the pesky dinosaur menace. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but it looks really cool, if that’s your thing. I wouldn’t mind smacking a T-Rex in the face myself.

Exoprimal is still some way off from release as the trailer stated that the game will release in 2023 for PS4 and PS5.

Ghostwire Tokyo Got a New Trailer

Not exactly what I wanted to see before getting ready to rest my weary head, but Ghostwir Tokyo got another chilling trailer ahead of its March 25th, 2022 release date.

Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin Has a Free Demo Today

Square Enix had a big presence in this State of Play with the publisher showcasing a number of games, the first being Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, which releases on March 18th, 2022. Also, there’s a free demo being released on the PlayStation Store later today, so give it a go if you want to see if it’s worth your pennies.

Forspoken Got Another Trailer

The recently delayed Forspoken – another Square Enix game – got another showing today with a lengthy trailer showing off some gameplay as well as some cinematics. Will it be enough to keep fans happy until the October 2022 release? Probably not.

Gundam Evolution is a Blend of First/Third Person Shooter/Brawler

Bandai came in hot with a trailer for Gundam Evolution, and that’s about as much as I can pretend to know about the game. I’m not a Gundam fan. Sorry. But for those of you who are, there’s a network test for the game happening this Spring. In other words, it’s getting a demo. Also, it’ll only be available for US and Japan players. Europe will probably be under a smog of nuclear crap by then anyway…

Retro Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Coming

Remember the good old days where we used to slot coins into a machine in a place that wasn’t our house and definitely had a few perverts? They’re called arcades, and I remember playing a few Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games while beating off the advances of Mick the Nonce. Ah, the good old days. Well, all of us over the age of 30 will be able to relive the glory days of smelly arcades from the comfort (and safety) of our couches as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cowabunga Collection is releasing this year, packing in a bunch of retro classics.

GigaBash Smashes The World This Year

Nicked from the PlayStation Store page:

“After centuries spent slumbering in the bowels of the earth, the primordial beasts known as Titans have awoken. Now they must battle humanity – and one another – for total world dominance.

GigaBash combines the chaos and creativity of titles like Power Stone, Super Smash Bros and War of Monsters with the jaw-dropping scale of the classic kaiju movies. Play as either a rampaging Titan or a Titan-hunting mecha; summon lightning from the heavens, use a radio tower as a baton, or roll a whole district (and your enemies) into a single massive snowball. Wreak enough havoc and you’ll evolve into your final form, the terrifyingly titanic S-Class”

JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure All-Star Battle is Coming This Year

Like fighting games? Good, because JoJo’s Bizzare Adventure All-Star Battle is coming to PS4 and PS5 later this year, and it looks to be living up to its name in that it really does look quite bizarre.

Trek to Yomi is a Stunner in Disguise

Black and white movies might not be for everybody, and black and white games will be for even fewer, but that hasn’t stopped Devolver Digital and Flying Wild Hog from drawing inspiration from the old classic Japanese movies of the past. It looks great and it’s coming to PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC this Spring.

Returnal Returns With a Co-Op Update

Housemarque’s Returnal is getting its big 3.0 update on March 22nd and it’ll add two-player online co-op – neat! If you don’t like dying alone, you can drag a mater to ascend the new tower of hell that awaits player later this month.

The DioFeld Chronicle Invades in 2022

Another Square Enix game coming in 2022, The DioFeld Chronicle is a JRPG with big swords, lots of battles, and lots of other stuff. What can I say? It’s not for me. Give me a new Tomb Raider and I’ll write a thousand meaningful words.

Valkyrie Elysium Naruto Runs to PS5 and PS4 This Year

And yet another Square Enix game, and yet another case of me not being able to properly convey what the game is. The only thing I took from it is that the main character does that weird Naruto run that the weird kids used to do in school as they tried to avoid half-eaten jam sandwiches being chucked at them. There’s a trailer. Watch that.
