The longest journey or a quick trot?
35MM is a new-ish release, at least on consoles. Originally released in 2016 for PC on Steam, 35MM has now hit PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and even the Nintendo Switch. But how long does it take to beat? Is it a long-term investment of your precious pennies?
Playing the game from start to finish can be done in a single day if you put yourself into the task. My playthrough from start to finish, completed over the course of four days, was around 6 hours. Bear in mind, I died a fair few times and 35MM does not have a generous checkpoint system.
As I noted in my 35MM review, it’s one of the weak points of the game. If you die, you could end up re-doing large sections of any given chapter, which is annoying and certainly pads out the playtime.
If you’re a true completionist and you want to get all of the game’s trophies or achievements, you’ll easily double your playtime.
There are multiple endings depending on the actions you take during the course of the game’s story which affects which ending you’ll see. Factor in collectables and some menial tasks, and you could be looking at anywhere between 9 and 12 hours, depending on how quickly you can move through the game’s chapters and whether you kick the proverbial bucket at the most inconvenient times.
With that said, if you’re playing on Nintendo Switch, there isn’t really the incentive to do the same tasks as on PlayStation and Xbox due to the Switch’s lack of achievement system.
35MM is available now as a digital download on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
