Are there any time limits in Pikmin 4?
In short, there is no time limit for completing the game. There’s no limit to how many days are in Pikmin 4, and you can take as long as you want to finish each level. This is different to the original Pikmin game, where you had to complete your objectives in 30 days.
However, you will still need to deal with the day/night cycle. Eventually, the day will come to a close and you’ll need to recover any stray Pikmin before they are lost to the creatures at night. After the day ends, you’ll go back to the main base and choose where to go for your next expedition.
Additionally, time on the overworld will stop when you enter a cave. This means you can spend as much time as you like underground without having to worry about time passing above.

How does the day/night cycle work in Pikmin 4?
After a day ends in Pikmin 4, you will be sent back to the main base where you started the game. From here you can choose to head out on another expedition.
Eventually, you will gain access to night-time expeditions. These are unique missions separate from the rest of the game’s content.
Your only objective here is to protect Lumiknolls using Glow Pikmin to gather Glow Sap – a medicine used to restore Castaways to their regular selves. Night brings out the most dangerous creatures, you’ll need to be careful in combat and use strategy to protect your Lumiknolls.
You will have to pick between a day or night expedition on any given day. You can’t spend time in one area and then head off on a night expedition on the same day. Every expedition is its own day, regardless of whether you choose to go out during the day or at night.
Both day and night expeditions have a time limit while you’re on the overworld, but you can go on as many expeditions as you like. You can also reset time at the end of the day if you’ve lost Pikmin and want to find them.
