One of the most enjoyable aspects of Digimon Survive is the process of recruiting Digimon to your party and watching them digivolve. While you begin the game with a single Digimon at your side, there are over 100 Digimon available to recruit in Digimon Survive — all with their own Evolution Charts. So, before you set out on your journey, learn how to recruit and digivolve Digimon in Digimon Survive.
How To Recruit Digimon In Digimon Survive
When you start Digimon Survive, it’s just you and Agumon. However, as you progress through the game, you’ll get opportunities to recruit additional Digimon to your party. Some Digimon will naturally join you as you advance through the story. But, if you want to hand-pick your Digimon allies, you’ll need to venture into some Free Battles.
In Free Battle mode, you’ll have the option to start a conversation with prospective recruits by selecting the “Talk” option and scrolling over to the list of Foes. Upon starting a conversation with a wild Digimon, they’ll ask you a few questions to help them decide if they’d be a good fit for your party. If they like your answers enough, you can ask them to be your friend.
The game places major emphasis on the Digimon Survive Karma System. With that said, the better a Digimon’s attribute corresponds to your Karma, the more likely you are to successfully recruit it.
How To Digivolve Digimon In Digimon Survive
Digimon is known for its complex evolution system featuring deep branching paths and the ability for Digimon to de-digivolve. Unlike Pokémon where the creatures almost always follow a set evolution chain, Digimon evolve into different forms based on their moral compass and attributes.
In Digimon Survive, your Digimon are a reflection of what’s inside your heart, and as is the case when you try to recruit a Digimon, your Karma has a direct impact on how your Digimon evolve. Your highest Karma score dictates what digivolution path your Digimon friends will proceed down. For example, if you rep Moral Karma, Agumon will digivolve through the Vaccine attribute chain of Greymon, MetalGreymon, WarGreymon, etc.
The process of digivolving in Digimon Survive depends on the Digimon in question. Digimon you befriend in the main narrative, like Agumon, Falcomon, and Labramon, evolve automatically at select points in the story. When these Digimon transform into a new evolution for the first time, that particular digivolution gets unlocked in the in-game Evolution Chart. However, digivolving comes at the cost of SP. These Digimon cannot maintain their evolved forms forever and will de-digivolve back to their Rookie level after the battle or when their SP gauge runs dry.
Digimon recruited through Free Battles operate a bit differently. To evolve these Digimon, you’ll need to use a Mature Enlightenment Slab. Not only are Mature Enlightenment Slabs rare, Digimon that digivolve through this method cannot de-digivolve. With this in mind, you’ll want to think carefully and be selective about which Digimon you decide to evolve with a Mature Enlightenment Slab.
You’re now versed in how to recruit and digivolve Digimon in Digimon Survive. Digimon Survive is available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC as of July 29, 2022.
