Being the Visual Novel enthusiast that I am, I find myself always looking for the next strides in that niche subgenre of video games, and I felt like I found something that I could name as next level in story telling presentation. A Memoir Blue is a game worth your attention, it may have just gotten under the reader because it was shown during Microsoft’s post-Game Awards livestream, but one look at it and you will figure that it’s the real deal.
A Memoir Blue Launch Date Trailer
The first thing that grabbed my attention is how A memoire blue combines two kinds of art styles in the same scenery, and not just that, but it went to new lengths and is trying to tell a story through that unique blend of art. It feels like the game has a lot of personal and emotional things to say, but at the same time, it paints a marvelous and fantastical view of these realistic emotions, to make its point more inclusive and clear.
I am also charmed by how it tackles the protagonist’s childhood memories. I always felt that I remember the things I did in the past with more fondness and tenderness, and how I remember things is not always consistent with how they really are. The different art style of the girl’s childhood self with her mother captures just that. It needs no words to convey, and not many narrative games incorporate their ideas in this manner.
I also would like to point out that the soundtrack of A Memoir Blue is courtesy of Joel Corelitz, who won a BAFTA Best Music Award for his work on The Unfinished Swan, and worked on multiple other key works such as Solar Ash, East Ward, Death Stranding, and even Halo Infinite. A glimpse of his love for dominant string sounds can be heard in the trailer, and it seems he is preparing another musical score master piece for the sake of this heartwarming story.
More insight about this game can be convincing, especially when you know that the main story is based around the life of the Chinese main creative director Shelly Chen. Her insight on the game can be found here, and she describes in detail the goal of this game, the cultural nuance behind many of its aspects, and also how she wants to delve into religious views and how they differ between the east and the west.
The title will launch on February 10, 2022 for Xbox Series X|S/Xbox One, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5/PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
