The Need for Speed series is known for its exciting racing, drifting, and above all, cool cars to customize and drive in an open world. However, that racing needs to take place somewhere, and Need for Speed Unbound having an open world would be the perfect scenario. Is that the case? Find out below.

Does Need For Speed Unbound Have An Open World?

Need for Speed Unbound has you racing to be the very best in the city in pursuit of giving Rydell’s Rides the reputation it used to have. In order to do that, you’ll need to explore the open world and go to meetups. At these meetups, you’ll start races and get the best position possible to get maximum cash. With this cash, you’ll be able to enter new races and upgrade your car’s visuals and performance. It works similarly to past Need for Speed games like the 2015 reboot and Hot Pursuit.

Need for Speed Unbound also has multiple open-world challenges you can tackle called activities. Speedruns have you trying to race through a section of the map as fast as possible while Drift Zones challenge you to drift as far as possible in yards. If you accomplish certain feats, you’ll gain cash for these as well.

Lastly, there are collectables you can find throughout the city of Lakeshore. Similar to Burnout Paradise, you can ram through billboards to get money. There is also street art you can admire and add as a decal to your car. Unfortunately, Switch owners won’t be able to experience these open-world features.

Be Careful of the Police

While you’re drifting, boosting, and jumping over traffic, the police will become more alert. There is a meter indicated by fire that indicates your heat with the police. The higher it gets, the harder it will be to escape from their clutches. On the top right of your screen, you’ll also see the money you have earned throughout the day. If you’re caught by the police, that money will go away unless you can bank it at a nearby safe house. Watch out for the authorities, escape by speeding or going off-road, and you should be fine.
