Microsoft’s Xbox One has gone from strength to strength in recent months – and it’s only getting better. That’s partly due to the fact that Microsoft has listened to the fans and has worked hard to bring backwards compatibility to the next-gen machine, meaning those who yearn to play through their older games but can’t be arsed with setting up the dusty Xbox 360 need only use the Xbox One for such activities.
Okay, granted it has a few teething problems, but it’s working quite nicely so far. One of the big issues that players have had with the function is the lack of DLC packs available for popular games. Many of the last-gen games that players want to play at ease on their Xbox One had some cracking DLC to extend them, so it’s good news that Microsoft has manged to work it out with Bioware so that Mass Effect DLC can be downloaded and played via the backwards compatibility function. Neat.
It’s great news for fans of the franchise and it means that you’re still able to get the full experience, but it does leave us wondering if other games will get the same treatment. Black Ops II is the fan-favourite to be added to the backwards compatibility list, but will it allow for players to use their previously bought DLC? We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
For the moment the backwards compatibility function is only available for preview members, so if you’re not a member of the Xbox Live preview program then you’ll have to wait until it’s released to the public this November. Not too long to wait, then.
Enjoying the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility, or are you too busy running through the wealth of native Xbox One games on offer?
