Naughty Dog Artists Talk Building Environments in Game Worlds

Naughty Dog is perhaps the most well-known video game developer in the world right now, due in no small part to the great games that the Californian studio has pushed out in recent years as well as its hotly anticipated Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End for the PS4.

The studio has recently released a new short video where a couple of the team’s artists (Brain Recktenwald and Adam Littledale) talk about what it’s like creating the worlds that populate Naughty Dog’s titles and what the role of an Environmental Artist entails. We’re no good at that sort of stuff, but apparently you get to play with little model kits of rocks and trees and all kinds of stuff, so maybe our LEGO habits could be put to better use afterall?

There’s a short video down below, so give it a watch if you’re interested in what goes into making the rich game worlds that we all enjoy. Also, be sure to hit the pause button at around the 1:04 mark. Why? It looks like we might, might get our first look at the Uncharted 4 main menu screen, though it’s all fuzzed out so we can’t be sure.

Naughty Dog’s next game is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. The fourth main outing for Nathan Drake and his chums will hit PS4 on March 18th, 2016. In the mean time we have the Nathan Drake Collection releasing on October 9th on PS4.
