With the leaks overflowing and the rumours flying, Ubisoft has decided to come out and confirm that the next Assassin’s Creed title is indeed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, what’s more is that it’s coming this October, October 29th, according to the Ubisoft website, which has since removed the release date.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise to be honest, we all knew there was going to be one later this year, what’s more shocking is the announcement. Assassin’s Creed III is still sitting on shelves with DLC yet to be released, yet Ubisoft seem to think we need to know about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag six months before it even releases.
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag has been confirmed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U, but we expect it’ll also see a release on the PlayStation 4 and the yet-to-be announced next Xbox.
The publisher also released the official box art for the title, which you can check out below.
From what we can tell, and from what rumours have been suggesting is that Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag takes place in/around the Caribbean, where you’ll fight in the hood of Edward Kenway. It looks like Ubisoft are pushing for more sea-based antics this time around, and seeing as the Caribbean is home to many islands, I think it’s a safe bet that we’ll see more boat-based action this time around.
Once again, the PlayStation version will be receiving some exclusive content in the form of 60 minutes of gameplay that players on other platforms will have to miss out on. Though it’s only the PlayStation 3 version confirmed for now, I think it’s safe to say that the PlayStation 4 version will also feature the exclusive content.
There’s no word yet on a PlayStation Vita port/spin-off at this time, although we’ve emailed the publisher and will update if/when they get back to us.
