News: Dying Light Has Over 2000 Hours Of Testing; QA Testing “Most Underrated” Job In Industry

Update: After a recent email from Maciej Binkowski, it’s come to our attention that Dying Light hasn’t had over 2000 hours of testing in general, it’s that each tester has played 2000 hours of the game, so the actual testing time is far more impressive than what we first reported.

Dying Light will soon be sending shivers down our spines, but spare a moment for those poor souls who have to test the games we play before they release.

Now spare another moment for those who have to test the awful games before they release. We salute you, brothers and sisters.

Still, Quality Assurance is a big job and it’s there to help make sure that the final product that gets presented to players is worth the expensive price tag.

According to Maciej Binkowski, Dying Light’s Lead Game Designer, Dyling Light has had over 2000 hours of test-time – and that’s only on the PC version. With the console versions included it comes to a much higher count.

For reference, Binkowski’s game time on Steam is around 500 hours. Ouch.

Binkowski also reckons that the job of a QA tester isn’t that glamorous, describing it as “really hard work” before going to state that he thinks it’s the “most underrated job in the industry.”

He’s got a point. Whenever you read interviews, previews, reviews you never hear about the people who spend their days sat in front of a TV, controller in hand, pen in the other, noting all the bugs and glitches that they’ve found.

When I was a young boy I dreamed of being a video-game tester, but the harsh reality is that you don’t get to sit around playing awesome games all day, it’s actually pretty tedious work.

Dying Light will be releasing January 27th in North America and January 30th in the UK and Europe.

The zombie-horror title will be available on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. You can pre-order your copy with Amazon UK and get the exclusive “Be The Zombie” edition. Sweet!
