As we all found out over the last few days, you will require a PlayStation Plus membership to enjoy some multiplayer sessions on the PS4, though that still comes with all the benefits of PlayStation Plus as it is in its current form.
This may have disappointed many Sony fans as it was always one of the big pulls towards the PlayStation 3. There is some good news though – you wont need to be a PlayStation Plus member to enjoy Arrested Development on Netflix without having to go through a paywall.
The PS4 may need a PlayStation Plus subscription to be active to play online multiplayer, but you won’t need one to get access to all your favourite apps, something that has been a common complaint with Microsoft and the Xbox 360, and more than likely, the Xbox One.
It’s worth pointing out that free-to-play titles will not require a PlayStation Plus membership, unless the publishers specifically asks for it. So it’s not all bad, and according to Shuhei Yoshida, the fee’s taken for PlayStation Plus will be used to build upon and improve the PlayStation Network.
Online play will however remain free on the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita.
