The developers behind Rainbow Six Siege have already promised that they’ll be taking the series back to its roots with super-smooth 60 FPS gameplay and now they’re promising a real tactical treat for those who delve into the upcoming first-person-tactical shooter.
Posting once again on the official development blog, the team reveals that players will be able to use deployable barbed wire to force some difficult decisions upon opposing players. Each player will start with two rolls of deployable barbed wire which can be throw on any walkable surface and more interestingly, the barbed wire behaves dynamically. If you throw it down on a large open area it’ll spread out to its full extent, whereas if you decide to drop it along a narrow hallway it’ll bunch up, effectively locking off that particular route for would be attackers. It’s an interesting mechanic and we’re definitely looking forward to trying it out sometime in the near future.
Another point worth noting is the inclusion of surveillance camera’s that can be strategically placed within the game map to give players a tactical view of choke points, exit routes and so forth. If you’ve played the Splinter Cell games then you’ll be instantly familiar with the mechanics and how it works.
The blog post goes on to say that the game maps are effectively yours to manipulate with the sheer amount of destructible features you can shape the map into your very own Rambo-style deathtrap. It sounds good in theory but whether players take full advantage of the features on offer is something that we’ll just have to wait and see.
Rainbow Six Siege will be available on the PS4, Xbox One and PC and has a vague 2015 release date attached though it is currently available for pre-order.
