Naughty Dog’s upcoming scary-mary The Last of Us has finally had its campaign length revealed by the company themselves.
In an interview with EvolveEnt, community strategist Arne Meyer spoke of the single player offering for The Last of Us and revealed that the story mode will run for around 12 to 16 hours, depending on how you play the game.
“We’re definitely looking at more than 12 hours, maybe 12 to 16 right now is what we’re looking at,” Mr Meyer revealed. “It really depends on how you play. You can play a little bit slower if you try to approach situations stealthy, if you really want to explore the environment and scavenge, that’s going to add more time too.”
It’s set to be the longest campaign in Naughty Dog’s portfolio of games, and that’s not a bad thing. The fact that 12 hours will be the minimum is great and you’ll be getting your money’s worth without a doubt, but take a slower approach by being a sneaky ninja or just exploring the digital world Naughty Dog has created in The Last of Us and you’ll easily hit 16 hours, maybe more depending on what the Trophies demand of you.
I thought Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was pretty long, but that’s because I repeatedly die due to my gung-ho approach. With a lot of games focussing more and more on multiplayer whilst leaving the single player modes out in the cold with short stories that don’t really satisfy, take Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 as a prime example, or even worse, Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified on the PS Vita, where the single player can be completed in under an hour.
So if it’s value for money and a cracking tale being told, you can’t go wrong with The Last of Us. Roll on June 14!
