The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct finally has a release date set, and it’s not that far away.

Activision announced that the prequel to the hit TV series will be coming on March 29th in the UK and Europe and that it will see a release on the Nintendo Wii U, as well as the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The Wii U version isn’t going to boast any special features for the platform, other than utilising the second screen, as put by producer Glenn Gamble in an interview with Digital Spy.

“That’s where it’s basically a more elegant inventory management system. With the Wii U you have access to your backpack at all times, so you can tap what weapons you want, you can drop stuff. It’s a lot more streamlined.”

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct follows the story of brothers Daryl and Merle Dixon as they fight to survive amidst the zombie outbreak. Taking place before the events of the first series of AMC’s The Walking Dead, you’ll be playing through an original story to flesh out the back story of the two brothers an the events leading up to them meeting Rick and the rest of the survivors.

A couple of weeks ago we showed you some gameplay footage that was supposedly from the game, now we’ve got some images for you to peruse. Be warned, it’s not looking like it’s going to win any awards for presentation.

I hate to pass judgement on a game before it’s released, but as we’ve previously seen, Activision’s record with video games based on popular licenses speaks for itself.

As a big fan of The Walking Dead, I’m hoping we’re all proven wrong in our judgements of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, but to be honest, my hopes aren’t high.

Still, we haven’t got long to wait…
