Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Is No More?! Developer Cut Loose

playstation alllstarsDeveloper Superbot Entertainment, creator of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, no longer has ties with Sony. Sony confirmed it’s working agreement with Superbot has now ended, just days after Superbot themselves had laid off many of its employees.

Sony sent out this statement:

“Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that the working agreement with developer SuperBot Entertainment has amicably ended,” a Sony representative told Kotaku. “We have had a positive working relationship with this talented studio, and wish them the best of success in their next endeavour  PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale and the title’s forthcoming DLC releases will continue to be fully supported by Santa Monica Studio.”

Since Sony clearly owns the IP it is possible we may see a potential sequel in the future but for now, any hope or speculation on a sequel in development is squashed at this point.

Did you play All-Stars? Do you think this may be a great opportunity for Superbots future? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. I really like PASBR. It’s so much fun. I mainly play as Ratchet. This is sad news, since Superbot did a commendable job on the game and in differentiating it from the other, mascot driven fighting game. I hope they get to work on something equally as awesome, very soon. Somehow, also for the Vita. Because I love the little handheld that Sony seems content to ignore. Also, if Sony actually managed to market the game, perhaps this wouldn’t have happened. Hell, if Sony managed to market any game…

    1. I think they should get bluepoint to handle the sequel with Santa Monica studios. They were the ones who ported it to the vita and are responsible for the metal gear hd collection and the god of war collections. I know they mostly port games but since they should have all the working knowledge of the game, you would think they would be perfect for making a new.

      1. Bluepoint knows how to work their stuff. I love their HD collections and their ports. I’d like to see them tackle other games and place them on Vita (namely the Sly, Ratchet & Clank, and Jak & Daxter series, but they could also do the PS2 and PSP God of Wars. Man, I’d throw them all of my money if they did that), but new and original games are more important. PSABR was a great start that didn’t capitalize on the nostalgia value that the PS has, and that was probably something Sony implied. If they threw in more fan service (like Smash bros, where a Zapper is an actual weapon, and you can toss poke balls all over the place) like having the Eye Toy act as a freeze ray, or UMD’s tossed about like ninja stars, or Materia tossed around like Smash Bro’s poke balls… And a real story next time. One that crosses the worlds of Sony better. Like: Polygon Man ripping into alternate universes and recruiting villains from respective stories in an attempt to gather power and destroy Sony. But, alas, sometimes it seems as if Sony is doing that to themselves. BTW: Sorry for the long reply.
