Aggron is a Generation 3 Steel/Rock-type Pokemon which evolves from Lairon. Those who have spent some time playing Pokemon GO will no doubt groan at the mention of its name. With an absurdly high 3000 max Combat Power (CP), great Defence (257), and a number of common resistances, this aggressive Pokemon has swept countless teams.
With the announcement of Mega Aggron making its debut in Mega Raids from September 16, 2022, to September 27, 2022, many trainers will be looking to add this fearsome ‘Mon to their team lineup.

Pokemon GO Aggron: Best Moveset
Heavy Slam and Iron Tail is the best moveset for Aggron in Pokemon GO. These two Steel-type moves take advantage of STAB (same-type-attack-bonus) for massive damage, with few resists thanks to its dual-typing.
Whilst the Iron Tail/Heavy Slam combination is still recommended due to Heavy Slam using less energy, some people prefer to substitute in Smack Down instead of Heavy Slam. This is due to its alternative STAB damage and valuable Rock-type coverage. However, popular counter Machamp resists this move, which is why it is not recommended.
Some people also like to run with Thunder to provide Electric coverage. This can be perfect for taking out Water-type Pokemon before they can deal heavy damage to Aggron. The only downside is that it costs a lot of energy to use. Dragon Tail, whilst good to have in your pocket for Dragon-type enemies, isn’t recommended due to its lack of STAB.
The addition of Rock Tomb in the GO Battle League: Season of Light is also not worth running on Aggron. Whilst it also provides Rock-type STAB, the move has poor damage output and high energy cost. This is despite it being a 2-bar move.

Pokemon GO Mega Aggron: Best Moves
Mega Aggron drops the Rock typing to become purely Steel, meaning the double weakness to Fighting types is negated. Unfortunately, Mega Aggron has to share the stage with monsters like Mega Metagross and Mega Tyranitar, where it just can’t compete. The Iron Tail/Heavy Slam combination remains Aggron’s best moveset to take advantage of STAB.
