Picking your starter Pokemon is an important decision that has defined who you are as a human being since the first game back in 1996. It’s true – you can tell a lot about the type of person someone is by asking them which starter they picked in each generation. For example, if they picked Charmander back in Gen 1, they’re definitely not someone you should trust.
Sprigatito, the adorable ‘weed cat’, is Paldea’s Grass-Type starter. This guide has a list of pros and cons for picking Sprigatito, so you can make the decision that’s right for you.
Just a fair warning though, if you’re reading this before the game launches, we’ll be discussing some of those Pokemon Scarlet and Violet leaks that have been floating around.
- What different adventures will you and Sprigatito get up to?
Why You Should Pick Sprigatito
- Type: Grass
- Category: Grass Cat
- Ability: Overgrow/Protean
Sprigatito has fur that can photosynthesize, and when it starts its shift at the biscuit factory (some people call it kneading) it emits a sweet aroma that mesmerizes those around it.
It evolves into Floragato and Meowscarada, a Grass/Dark final evolution that’s sure to have handy type coverage throughout the region.
What immediately makes Sprigatito stand out is its high final stage stats and its broken hidden ability, Protean. If the leaks prove to be true, this Pokemon will be a huge part of Generation 9’s competitive scene. Protean allows the Pokemon to change its type to match the type of the move it just used. That means a same-type attack bonus (STAB) on every move it uses, and 100% accuracy with moves like Toxic.
Let’s take a look at its alleged stats. According to popular Twitter user CentroLeaks, Sprigatito’s final stage stats have meta written all over them. With a base speed stat of 123, it makes it one of the fastest Pokemon in the regional dex we know about so far. Pair that with a high attack stat of 110, Meowscarada is going to be a decent physical sweeper with unpredictable plays.
Plus, did I mention it’s the cutest? Just… Don’t search the internet for pictures of that final evolution. It’s not worth it.
Meowscarada does have a few downsides, however. Its final HP stat of 76 is by far the lowest of all the final form starters. It also has a pretty abysmal Sp Def/Defence stat at 70 each. If you’re looking for a glass cannon attacker to join your team, Sprigatito would be the best choice for you.
