Pokemon Scarlet and Violet trade codes are a special feature introduced in the latest Pokemon games. This feature allows players to trade for specific Pokemon even if they don’t have friends to trade with.

Trade codes, or link codes, allow players to search for specific Pokemon when trading.

Normally, if you wanted to trade with a friend you’d input the same code and trade to your heart’s content. But in Scarlet and Violet, you can use certain codes to find people looking for specific Pokemon even if you’re a solo player.

Trading is the ideal way to get Pokemon from the other version of the game, or any starters or legendary Pokemon you couldn’t obtain on your first playthrough.

To search for specific Pokemon, you’ll need their number from the Paldean Pokedex.

Each number translates to a four-letter code. For example, Sprigatito is 1 in the dex so the code is 0001, while Quaxly would be 0007. If you’re looking to trade a Sprigatito for a Quaxly, you’d input 0001 0007.

For a slightly different example, Gengar is 70 and Dragonite is 349. This trade would be 0070 0349.

Once you’ve input the right numbers, set the link code and begin searching. Eventually, you might find yourself in a trade with another player, but that depends if others are searching for the same trade as you are. Some trades are likely to be more popular than others.

And that’s just about all you need to know about trade codes in Scarlet and Violet. Now you can potentially complete the dex even without trading between friends!
