Pokémon Paldea Region: Everything We Know About Scarlet And Violet’s Paldea Region

Game Freak | The Pokémon Company

The Pokémon Paldea region is the setting for the upcoming Pokémon Scarlet and Violet titles. The world of Pokémon is vast and full of wonders, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea is a perfect example of that. While the adventure doesn’t begin until November 18, 2022, it doesn’t hurt to get familiar with the environment Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players will soon call home. So, let’s go over everything we know about the Pokémon Paldea region from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Paldea Region: Inspiration And Design

Historically, regions in the Pokémon series derive inspiration from real-life locales. This trend continues with Paldea, which appears to be based off of Spain and Portugal, particularly the Iberian Peninsula. The flora, the architecture, the traditional clothing, and even the region-specific Pokémon share obvious influence with southwestern European culture.

The central attraction of Paldea is Mesagoza, the largest city in the region. Mesagoza is where Pokémon Scarlet and Violet players will attend school to make friends and learn everything there is to know about Pokémon. Pokémon Scarlet Trainers will attend Naranja Academy, while Pokémon Violet Trainers patronize Uva Academy.

However, Mesagoza is just a minuscule part of Paldea as a whole. The sprawling landscape is as diverse as can be, featuring bright blue lakes and rivers, lush fields, barren wastelands, and snowy mountain ranges. People and Pokémon live together in these stunning environments on Paldea.

For many, perhaps the best aspect of Paldea is knowing that it offers completely open-world exploration. Travel to any corner of Paldea right off the rip if you’d like — there is no set path and nothing to hold you back. And for the social butterflies out there, you can traverse it all with friends! Pokémon Scarlet and Violet co-op is possibly the most robust multiplayer offering the franchise has ever seen. You can battle, adventure, trade, or simply hang out with Trainers all across the globe.

Pokémon Paldea Region: Things To Do On Paldea

What good is a bustling open world if there’s nothing to do inside it? Thankfully, that’s far from the case with Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s Paldea.

Right away, Director Clavell at the academy will send you off on an expedition deemed “the Treasure Hunt”. Along your journey, you’ll encounter eight Gym Leaders that offer Badges to Trainers skilled enough to defeat them in a Pokémon battle. Still, the quest to become a Pokémon Champion is just one of three unique storylines offered in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The world of Paldea is your oyster — explore and take on its many challenges as you see fit.

Of course, as you progress through Pokémon Scarlet and Violet storylines, you’ll encounter loads of people and Pokémon that’ll shape your time in Paldea.

Pokémon Paldea Region: Pokémon Inhabitants

Alongside the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet starters of Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly, Paldea supports a flurry of never-before-seen Pokémon. Some are simply variants native to Paldea, such as Paldean Wooper, while other species are restricted based on whether you’re playing Pokémon Scarlet or Violet. For example, Larvitar and Stonjourner exist exclusively in Pokémon Scarlet, while Bagon and Eiscue appear in Pokémon Violet.

Considering Paldea’s grand size and diverse terrain, the classic bicycle isn’t going to cut it any longer. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Koraidon and Miraidon serve as vehicles for their Trainers. These Legendary Pokémon can transform and adapt to whatever obstacles lie ahead. Whether you need to travel on land, sea, or air, Koraidon and Miraidon can adequately accommodate you.

Finally, the Pokémon of Paldea are experiencing a mysterious occurrence known as the Terastal phenomenon. Terastal Pokémon not only look different visually, but they operate differently as well. Check out a breakdown of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Terastal Pokémon if you want to learn more about this Paldea-specific phenomenon.

The Pokémon Paldea region featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet may be the most beautiful, expansive, and jam-packed region in a Pokémon game thus far. Be one of the first Trainers to step foot into the Palea region when Pokémon Scarlet and Violet releases on November 18, 2022.
