The recently updated VG Chartz site and sales page has shown that the Xbox One has broken over 13 million in console sales since launch. This is quite impressive on top of over 61 million in software sales for the system.
A recently posted article and NeoGaf thread have announced at almost the same time that the Playstation 4 has sold over 25.3 million consoles in its lifespan. For our armchair score keepers that is almost double the current numbers for the Xbox One.
These are worldwide sales numbers and both systems are performing better than their prior systems. This is great news for gaming as a whole!
It should be noted that the Playstation 4 is currently outpacing the Playstation 2 in terms of sales at this point in each console’s lifespan and that the Playstation 4 also shipped over 3 million systems in Q1 of 2015 which accounts for just over 50% of all hardware shipped in Q1. That is more than the Xbox One, Wii, Wii U, Xbox 360, and 3DS combined.
Despite those astronomical sales numbers the highest note to remain on is the continued growth in hardware sales for video games which shows great promise for the future.
