Bottoms up!
There’s a new VR release coming next month and it’s sure to whet the whistle of every lonely alcoholic out there. The game? Startenders, a game where you play as a space-faring bartender, serving up drinks to the galaxy’s thirsty boozers.
Using the PS Move wand controllers on PSVR, or the Meta Quest’s pads if you’re on the portable headset, you’ll be moving around the bar, mixing exotic and spacey cocktails while drinking in the atmosphere and the game’s narrative; yes, it’s not “just another bartending” game in VR – there’s a story to follow, too.
With 100 recipes, 32 ingredients, 13 garnishes, 12 machines, and three cups, you can relive your glory days as a poor student working as a Wetherspoon’s bartender, minus the matchday mayhem and fights between bar and kitchen. If you know, you know.
Startenders takes an open-ended approach to its story, so you can progress at your own pace, and if you want to take a break between each procedurally generated shift (is this a No Man’s Sky spin-off?) you can kick back in the Habitat, buy some upgrades, or play some mini-games.
The game looks like good fun and it’s sure to get you moving around as you slap, wave, and smash your way through the bar to serve up something sweet for the regulars.
Startenders releases on March 17th for PSVR, playable on PS4 and PS5, as well as Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2, and it’ll slap a $14.99/€14.99/£11.99 bill to your tab.
