As of the time of writing, there is no way to play Temtem for free. Not even a demo is available for the game. Currently, there are no plans to make Temtem available for everyone at no cost, but an MMORPG does rely on its player base. If the player base goes down after a few years, there may be a possibility of the change occurring, but the game is now available on most platforms for £39.99.

Temtem is also being published by Humble Games, which also owns Humble Bundle. At one point in the future, there may be a chance it could appear on one of its value-for-money bundles due to the developer and publisher’s working relationship.

Keep in mind that Temtem does have a great detail of quality and nuanced content after its early access period, so it would be worth the asking price of £39.99 for many. It has a similar scope to portable Pokemon games, in terms of graphics.

If you’re a diehard Pokemon fan and have been disappointed in the lack of challenge, Temtem might be a game for you as well. It’s a pretty tough ride with the stamina system in place. It will be interesting to see how it fares when Pokemon Scarlet & Violet both release in November 2022.

There are many other games like Temtem that are cheaper if you don’t have the budget to buy Crema’s take on the monster-raising genre right now.

Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch is a stellar example on PlayStation systems, the Nintendo Switch, and PC. The main character Oliver explores a Studio Ghibli-created world with a magic wand and many creatures helping him out in battle. The story is endearing. You’ll be absorbed by the beautiful visuals and soundtrack.

You can also check out Nexomon: Extinction, which features an intriguing take on the formula with a slightly darker storyline. It will also give you that old-school 2D vibe from the classic Pokemon titles alongside a bright art style.

Both Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch and Nexomon: Extinction are often found in sales, so keep an eye out for them on whatever console you own. They can be found used as well.
