Next-gen scares

Capcom has announced today that it will be releasing Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 7 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S later this year. There’s no release date nor even a release window at the moment.

If you already own the games on PS4 or Xbox One, you’ll get the next-gen versions as a free update. PC players will also get an update adds some of the features being implemented in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S releases.

So, what’s new about these next-gen versions? Capcom has said that all three games will feature ray-tracing, higher frame rates and 3D audio to take the immersion up to the next level.

On PS5, players will get the extra benefit of DualSense support, with each game making use of the haptic feedback system and the adaptive triggers on the controller.

Something that has not been mentioned is the PSVR support for Resident Evil 7. No PS5 native games support PSVR – if a game is cross-gen and has PSVR support, you need to have the PS4 version installed to use PSVR features.

So it’s a given that Resident Evil 7 probably won’t have support for PSVR. But… what about PSVR 2? Now that’s something to think about, and hopefully, we’ll get more information soon.
