    Tuesday Trivia: 10 Splinter Cell Facts to Sneak on Your Lunch Break

    When Sam Fisher snuck out of the shadows on the original Xbox all those years ago, little did Ubisoft – or any of us for that matter – know that the gruff and buff super spy would cement his place in video game history, along with his iconic goggles.

    With Ubisoft’s recent announcement that Sam is coming back in a full-on remake of the original Splinter Cell, we thought it was a good idea to kick off our new Tuesday Trivia feature with everybody’s favourite sneaky-sneaky-stabby-stabby super-spy, Sam Fisher.

    Here are 10 Splinter Cell trivia nuggets you may not have known.

    Sam nearly didn't have his iconic goggles... Tom Clancy wasn't keen on the trifocals, arguing such a device would be impossible to create in real life. Thankfully, Ubisoft convinced him it would make for a better game, rather than having Sam swapping goggles while hanging above henchmen.

    A Splinter Cell movie was announced... ...17years ago. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (2005) shipped with a teaser trailer for a live-action movie. Tom Hardy was attached to the film in 2017, but production has not yet started. An animated Netflix series is on the way, though. Better than nothing, right?

    He sneaks for truth, justice, and the American way but... He is voiced by Michael Ironside - a Canadian. A completely made up rumour by us says that non-lethal takedowns are in the game due to Ironside's Canadian kindness.

    Splinter Cell Conviction almost got a Nintendo DS port... Gameloft was a long way into development of Splinter Cell Conviction for the Nintendo DS, but Ubisoft hit the reset button on development and the project was canned. You can watch a four-hour demo on YouTube, though. Plus, it's with Hobo Sam.

    Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow is basically an Xbox exclusive these days... Sam's second outing is the only game in the series to not get a digital release, at least on PC. The only way to play a decent, unbroken (and legal) version of the game is via Xbox

    Sam Fisher is officially one of the best characters ever... Sam Fisher was ranked the #24 best video game character of all time by the Guiness Book of Records back in 2011. Some little Italian plumber was ranked #1...

    Sam is not just a video game hero... Sam Fisher is the star of no fewer than eight official Tom Clancy novels, though none were actually written by Tom Clancy himself. Some are original tales, others are expansions or novelisations of the games

    One Splinter Cell game has two endings... But only one is considered canon. Specifically [SPOILER] the one that sees Sam execute his boss. Splinter Cell Double Agent saw Sam go deep undercover with a domestic terror group in a story that has two endings. Ubisoft stuck to linear storytelling for the next two games.

    Splinter Cell Blacklist may have had a cancelled DLC... A screenshot for Splinter Cell Blacklist hides a hint at a future DLC pack - Operation Angel Fire - on a screen. The DLC never released and Operation Angel Fire remains hidden in Ubisoft's black books.
