Can you play WoW on a Steam Deck?
Whilst players may think that you can’t run it on a Steam Deck, the answer is that you can in fact play World of Warcraft on the Steam Deck. It will require a couple of steps to set it up, but it is entirely possible.
This will require you to download some applications on it in order to run the game. Without further ado, here is how you can set up WoW.
- First, go to the Discover app and download ProtonUp-Qt. Download the app and install it for Steam. However, when you launch it, choose GE-Proton. To do this, switch to Desktop mode to avoid conflicts.
- Once you have installed ProtonUp-Qt, you will then want to install Battle Net. To do this, you will want to go back to the Discover app, install a browser of your choosing, and then navigate through Blizzard’s website to download Battle Net.
- You will want to access the file through Steam. Open Steam in Desktop Mode, then find your way to “Add a Game” in the bottom left corner. Then, you will want to click on “Add a non-Steam game.”
- This will let you launch the Battle Net client once you fetch it from the Downloads folder in the Steam Deck directory. To be able to launch it, you need to go to the properties of the client and check the option that says “Force the use of a specific Steam Play Compatability Tool” and then choose “GE-Proton7-41” from the list.
- Now that you have done that, you will be able to launch the client and download World of Warcraft onto your Steam Deck.
