Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Dates and times
The Pokemon GO Rising Shadows event kicks off on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 10am. After about a week of Team GO Rocket ruling over the game, the shadows will dissipate on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 8pm local time.
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Shiny Shadow Mewtwo and Shadow Raids debut
The long-rumoured Pokemon GO Shadow Raids are finally ready to debut in Pokemon GO. While Shadow Raids will be available throughout the event, there’s a very special Pokemon waiting for Trainers inside five-star Shadow Raids!
From Saturday, May 27, 2023, at 10AM to Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 8PM local time, Trainers can join 5-star Shadow Raids for the chance to catch Shiny Shadow Mewtwo for the first time in Pokemon GO.
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Event Bonuses
While the Rising Shadows event is active, you will be subjected to frequent encounters with Team GO Rocket at PokeStops and in balloons. Nevertheless, as long as you keep a fully healed team with you, these extra encounters shouldn’t prove too much of an issue.
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Shadow Raids
One way in which Team GO Rocket will make its presence felt during Rising Shadows is by taking over Gyms. Gyms under Team GO Rocket control will host Shadow Raids. Inside Shadow Raids, Trainers will find Shadow Pokemon serving as Raid Bosses.
From Monday, May 22, 2023, at 10am to Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 8pm local time, most of the Gyms in Pokemon GO will host Shadow Raids. However, from 10am to 8pm local time on Saturday, May 27, 2023, Team GO Rocket will control all Gyms and Raids in Pokemon GO.
Below is a list of the Shadow Pokemon you can expect to find in Shadow Raids during the Rising Shadows event:
One-star Shadow Raids
- Shadow Poliwag
- Shadow Machop
- Shadow Bellsprout
- Shadow Beldum
Three-star Shadow Raids
- Shadow Bayleef
- Shadow Quilava
- Shadow Croconaw
- Shadow Sneasel
Shadow Poliwag, Shadow Machop, Shadow Bellsprout, Shadow Beldum, and Shadow Sneasel will sometimes appear in their Shiny variants!
- You can’t access Shadow Raids with Pokemon GO Remote Raid Passes.
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Raids
When a Gym isn’t overrun by Team GO Rocket, you can find the following Pokemon in regular Raids while the Rising Shadows event is ongoing:
One-star Raids
- Clefairy
- Tentacool
- Marill
- Skrelp
- Popplio
Three-star Raids
- Magneton
- Lapras
- Mawile
- Empoleon
Five-star Raids
- Regigigas
- Tapu Fini
Mega Raids
- Mega Pinsir
- Mega Altaria
For the first half of the Rising Shadows event, until Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 10AM, Regigigas will occupy Five-Star Raids while Mega Pinsir will appear in Mega Raids. Then, until the event ends, Tapu Fini will serve as the Raid Boss for Five-Star Raids, and Meg Altaria will inhabit Mega Raids.
Most of these Raid Bosses can be Shiny too, except for Skrelp, Popplio, Magneton, Mawile, and Empoleon.
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Wild encounters
While exploring the open world during the Rising Shadows event, expect encounters with the following wild Pokemon:
- Ekans
- Golbat
- Koffing
- Houndour
- Poochyena
- Stunky
- Skorupi
- Hisuian Qwilfish
- Scraggy
Ekans, Koffing, Houndour, and Poochyena, will occasionally appear in their Shiny forms!
Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Field Research
During Pokemon GO Rising Shadows, Trainers can partake in limited-time Field Research tasks designed around defeating Team GO Rocket and capturing Pokemon available during the event. Trainers that complete these tasks can earn a Mysterious Component and Stardust.

Pokemon GO Rising Shadows: Cosmetics
As of the Rising Shadows event, Trainers can flex their status as an up-and-coming hero by purchasing the Rising Hero Pose in the in-game shop.
