- Be aware of the various Pokemon Scarlet and Violet purchase bonuses!
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet: New Items
Items offer Pokemon advantages in combat and are a key component of competitive battles. Try to outfit your Pokemon with items that’ll complement their strengths or counter the opposition.
Mirror Herb
Pokemon holding Mirror Herb can mimic their opponent’s stat changes once per match. For example, if the Pokemon you’re facing uses Bulk Up to raise its Attack and Defence, you can instruct your Pokemon to use the Mirror Herb item to copy the rival Pokemon’s stat increases.
From the looks of the recent competitive play trailer, Mirror Herb might be even more powerful than originally thought. In instances when an enemy Pokemon uses a give-and-take move like Belly Drum that cuts its HP in half in exchange for max Attack, Mirror Herb will steal the Attack increase buff without taking on the HP loss debuff.
Covert Cloak
Covert Cloak shields the holder from bonus effects of moves, like flinch, confusion, and paralysis.
Loaded Dice
Loaded Dice boosts the chance that a Pokemon using a multi-strike move, like Bullet Seed, will successfully hit additional times.
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet: New Moves
The majority of these new moves are innate to the never-before-seen Pokemon that inhabit the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Paldea region. However, that doesn’t mean previous generations of Pokemon can’t learn these moves!
Shed Tail
Showcased by Cyclizar, one of the brand-new Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Shed Tail is a combination of Substitute and Baton Pass. When used, the active Pokemon creates a decoy with half their max HP. Afterwards, another party member swaps in, but the new addition keeps the decoy. The new Pokemon can then attack freely while under the protection of the decoy.
- Cyclizar is the pre-evolution of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Legendary Pokemon Koraidon and Miraidon.
Tera Blast
Tera Blast is a Normal-type move learnable via TM. This move is designed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Terastal Pokemon. When performed by a Terastallised Pokemon, Tera Blast takes on the user’s Tera Type. Also, Tera Blast deals damage using whichever of the user’s Attack stat or Special Attack stat is higher, guaranteeing a substantially strong strike.
Bitter Blade
Bitter Blade appears to be the signature move of Ceruledge, a Fire/Ghost Pokemon exclusive to Pokemon Violet. Bitter Blade is a physical Fire-type move that restores the user’s HP by up to half the damage it inflicts.
Armour Cannon
As for Pokemon Scarlet exclusives, Armour Cannon is Armarouge’s signature move. Armarogue is a Fire/Psychic Pokemon, with Armour Cannon categorised as a special Fire-type move. Armour Cannon works like Close Combat, dealing damage but lowering the user’s Defence and Special Defence.
Trailblaze
The first time we witnessed Trailblaze in action was in the moveset of a Grass-type, Terastallised, Sudowoodo. While not a whole lot more is known about Trailblaze, it looks to be a physical Grass-type move, dealing super-effective damage to the Water-type Pokemon, Quaxly, in a trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
- Signature moves are just one of the many Pokemon Scarlet and Violet differences and exclusives.
Pokemon Scarlet And Violet: New Abilities
Abilities are special traits assigned to Pokemon to help them in battle. Abilities are different from moves in that they are passive and activate automatically under certain conditions.
Anger Shell
Anger Shell kicks in automatically once its user’s HP drops to half or less, boosting their Attack, Special Attack, and Speed stats while lowering their Defence and Special Defence stats.
That concludes the list of new items, moves, and abilities in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. With the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet release date rapidly approaching, it won’t be long before Trainers get to unleash these items, moves, and abilities on the battlefield.
