Giganto is the first major guardian to defeat in Sonic Frontiers, and it’s a toughie. After collecting all the seven chaos emeralds, it’s now time to fight this Shadow of the Colossus-like villain. Here’s how to beat Giganto in Sonic Frontiers.

Prepare First Before Fighting Giganto In Sonic Frontiers
Something you should know before heading up the waterfall towards the first boss of Sonic Frontiers Giganto is that you’ll need to gather as many rings as possible. The Super Sonic form you’ll build against Giganto will fade after all your coins are drained, and you’ll instantly get a game over. At this point of the game, you’ll likely have a limit of 400 rings. Collect as many as possible by jumping on platforms, riding rails, and tracing the ground with Sonic’s Cyloop ability.
After that, make sure you upgrade your strength and defence as much as possible with the Hermit Koco. Unfortunately, the lack of fast travel will make this grinding process a little slower.
- Unfortunately, there isn’t a Chao Garden to distract you from this tough boss battle.
How To Succeed In Battle Against Giganto
Once you encounter Giganto, his large size will likely daunt you. However, Sonic is as brave as ever. Head up to the giant enemy and slip behind its feet. Now, use the blue speed rings to make your way up the monster’s back and onto its neck. Once you’re at the top, the last chaos emerald appears. The blue blur quickly turns into Super Sonic, a Dragon Ball Z-esque form.
Once this occurs, fly directly towards Giganto and hit any body part of your foe. Super Sonic will start battering its armour, and a blue combo meter appears on the right. Fill it up quickly with a basic combo or use the Sonic Boom ability that has the hedgehog kicking fast. Once the combo meter is full, Super Sonic attacks faster, but be careful. Giganto will now react with a massive strike. Once it tries to attack, get ready to parry. Press the L1 and R1 (LB and RB on Xbox) at the same time, and if you manage to parry correctly, Giganto will pull back.
Now that Giganto is stunned, there should be a notification to press triangle and circle together. Super Sonic will unleash a series of attacks that will bring down a considerable portion of the boss’ health. Keep repeating this process and wither its health as fast as you can.
Towards the latter half of the boss, Giganto starts to send out a flurry of quick attacks and they’re hard to avoid, especially with some annoying camera work. When Giganto bounces you back and the camera turns 180 degrees, don’t immediately fly forward. Stop until the camera returns behind Sonic’s body and then move again. Get close enough to Giganto’s quick attacks and then parry again.
Giganto will then start releasing laser fire from its back and its mouth. The latter attack is something to be wary of as if you get caught in it, there’s a quick time event you have to deal with. Press the indicated button fast to get out of the laser fire. Try to avoid Giganto’s mouth as well as it may be difficult to escape from its teeth (another quick time event).
Lastly, keep avoiding the lasers and then follow the same parry strategy to win the battle and continue on to the next part of the Sonic Frontiers story. You’ll gain a trophy or achievement for your efforts if you’re on PlayStation, Xbox, or Steam. Good luck because you can’t invite your friends to help you with the Giganto boss fight.
