Sandygast and Palossand will make their first showing in the game during Water Festival: Beach Week. You can acquire Sandygast by completing Field Research tasks or besting it in one-star raids while the event is ongoing. To get Palossand, you must evolve Sandgast with 50 Sandygast Candy.

Pokemon GO Water Festival: Beach Week event features a Global Challenge. Trainers across the globe must work together to toss 300 million Nice Throws. Once the Global Challenge is satisfied, all Trainers will enjoy the following bonuses for the remainder of the event:
- Increased Candy for Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws
- Increased chance for Trainers level 31 and up to receive Candy XL for successfully catching Pokemon with Nice, Great, and Excellent Throws

Completing Field Research tasks during Water Festival: Beach Week will earn you encounters with the following Pokemon:
- Lapras wearing a scarf
- Frillish
- Binacle
- Clauncher
- Sandygast
Sandygast is the only Pokemon listed above without a Shiny variant in Pokemon GO.

Pokemon GO Water Festival: Beach Week: Spotlight Hour
On June 6, 2023, from 6pm to 7pm local time, a Water Festival-themed Spotlight Hour featuring Krabby, Kabuto, Corphish, Clauncher, and Crabrawler will occur. Aside from Crabrawler, these Pokemon all have a chance to appear in their Shiny forms.
During the Spotlight Hour, Trainers can enjoy a triple XP bonus for catching Pokemon.

Water Festival: Beach Week offers an event-exclusive Timed Research where participants can earn a surfer pose for their avatar and encounters with Pokemon fitting to Beach Week. A Water Festival: Beach Week Timed Research Ticket costs $5 and can be purchased in the in-game shop from June 6, 2023, at 10am to June 11, 2023, at 8pm local time. All the Timed Research tasks and their rewards will disappear on June 12, 2023, at 8pm local time.
