Welcome to our Act 2 Guide for Diablo 2 Resurrected (D2R). Here we will lay out all the questions, tips and tricks to complete Act 2 with ease.

Act 2 – Lut Gholein
- Fara – Heals/removes status effect, Sells basic weapons/armor, Repairs

(Note – The mercenaries that Griez(9) has for hire have Prayer/Blessed aim/Defiant auras in the normal and hell difficulties. In the nightmare difficulty they are Might/Holy freeze. These mercenaries are the strongest in the game so it is advised to acquire one. They use polearms and spears for weapons.)
Quests in Act 2
Radament’s Lair (Quest #1)
- Location – Sewers
- Waypoint – Sewers Level 2
- Objective – Kill Radament
- Rewards – Skill point book from Radament and lower vendor prices
Radament’s Lair is the first quest of Act II. It involves the killing of Radament. To start this quest go talk to Atma(4). She will ask you to go down into the sewers and dispatch the evil within. To enter the sewers there are 2 locations. The first is next to Griez(9)
The second way to access the sewers is south of Meshif(8).
Once you enter the sewers work your way down to sewers level 3. Make sure you pickup the waypoint on sewers level 2. Once you reach sewers level 3, search around the zone until you come across Radament and kill him.
Once he is killed, pick up the skill book he drops for a free skill point and open the gold chest in the room for some free gold. After that is done return to town and talk to Atma(4) to finish the quest and collect your reward. Be sure you use the skill book in your inventory for the free point.
The Horadric Staff (Quest #2)
- Location – Halls of the Dead, Maggot Lair, Claw Viper Temple.
- Waypoint – Halls of the Dead Level 2, Far Oasis, Lost City
- Objective – Collect the Horadric Cube in Halls of the Dead, Collect the Staff of Kings from the Maggot Lair, Collect the Amulet of the Viper from the Claw Viper Temple. Make and obtain the Horadric Staff.
- Rewards – Access to Duriel
The Horadric Staff quest is the second quest of act II.
It entails the collection of multiple pieces, across multiple zones, to craft the Horadric Staff. This quest will be completed hand in hand with the third quest from act II (See Below).
To start this quest talk to Cain(3). Once talked to he will tell you to go to the Halls of the Dead, The Maggot Lair, and the Claw Viper Temple. The first zone we will come across is the Halls of the dead.
To get there start by exiting town and entering the Rocky Waste. While in the Rocky Waste, move around the edge of the map until you find the path through the mountains into The Dry Hills. Once in the Dry Hills be sure to find and pick up the waypoint and look for the entrance to The Halls of the Dead Level 1.
Once you have the Dry Hills waypoint and you have found the entrance to the Halls of the Dead, enter and make your way down to level number 3 while picking up the waypoint on level number 2. Once you reach level 3 search around for a gold chest and open it to receive your Horadric Cube.
(Note – If you already have a cube you cannot attain another and can skip this portion)
After you have received your Horadric cube, return to town and use the waypoint area to teleport to the Dry Hills. Search around the Dry Hills mountain edge until you find the pathway to the Far Oasis. Once in the Far Oasis, search around for the waypoint and look for the entrance to The Maggot Lair 1.
Once you have acquired the waypoint and found the entrance to The Maggot Lair Level 1, enter the lair and follow the rightmost path down each level until you hit Maggot Lair level 3. Once you have reached level 3, search around the area for a room with a giant burrower and a golden chest. Kill the burrower.
Loot the chest for your second piece, The Staff of Kings.
After you have acquired The Staff of Kings, return to town and use the waypoint area to teleport to the Far Oasis. Once you are back in the Far Oasis, search around the mountain edge for the pathway into the Lost City. Once in the Lost City zone, find the waypoint. Once found, search around the edge of the mountains again until you find the pathway to the Valley of the Snakes. Once you have entered the Valley of the Snakes, Look for the entrance to The Claw Viper Temple Level 1 which is usually just inside the valley.
(Note – This part of the quest goes hand in hand with quest number 3 and will complete it when finished.)
Once inside the temple search for the way down to Claw Viper Temple Level 2. Take great care in navigating the temple as the snakes inside charge and hit hard. Make sure you have adequate potions before advancing. Once you find the entrance to the second level of The Claw Viper Temple, enter and and look out for the unique snake monster and kill him. Once he is dead, go to the altar in the middle of the room and click on it to receive your Amulet of the Viper.
Once you have your Amulet of the Viper, Return to town and talk to Cain(3). After talking with Cain(3), open your inventory and place the Staff of Kings and the Viper Amulet into the Horadric Cube and click transmute.
This should give you the Horadric staff thus completing the quest.
Make sure to talk to Cain(3) after making the staff to progress the story.
Tainted Sun (Quest #3)
- Location – The Claw Viper Temple
- Waypoint – Lost City
- Objective – Destroy the Tainted Sun Altar
- Rewards – Light is restored, Amulet of the Viper for second quest
(Note – This quest will be completed while doing the second quest portion of this guide. See Above)
The Tainted Sun is the third quest of Act II. It involves the destruction of the Tainted Sun Altar within The Claw Viper Temple. This quest will trigger when searching around the Lost City for the pathway to the Valley of the Snakes. Once triggered the sun will go out, and the land will go dark. While following the steps in the second quest portion you will enter the Claw Viper Temple Level 1.
Once inside Claw Viper Temple level 1, work your way to level 2 and break the Tainted Sun Altar in the middle of the room to receive your Amulet of the Viper.
Take care when fighting the snakes as they do heavy damage.
Return to town and talk to Drognan(5) to progress the story and complete the quest.
Arcane Sanctuary (Quest #4)
- Location – Lut Gholein Harem, Palace Cellar, Arcane Sanctuary
- Waypoint – Palace Cellar level 1, Arcane Sanctuary
- Objective – Search out and find the entrance to the Arcane Sanctuary
- Reward – Access to the Arcane Sanctuary
The Arcane Sanctuary is the fourth quest in Act II.
This quest involves working your way through the palace to find the Arcane Sanctuary. This quest can only be started after completing quest 2 and quest 3. Once you have acquired the Horadric staff from quest 2, be sure to talk to Cain(3) and Drognaan(5) so Jerhyn(7) becomes available to talk to and so you can enter the palace. Once you have finished talking enter the palace and go down to The Harem level 1.
Once you enter the Harem work your way down following the right/bottom side of the map until you find Harem level 2. Once you are inside Harem level 2 Continue following the right/bottom side of the map until you find Palace Cellar Level 1. Once inside Palace level 1 be sure to search for and acquire the waypoint.
Once the waypoint has been found, continue to follow the right/bottom side of the map as you work through the levels to Palace Cellar Level 3. Once inside Palace Level 3, make your way to the center of the map to find the entrance portal to the Arcane Sanctuary.
Click on the portal and go through it. Once on the other side be sure to get the Arcane Sanctuary Waypoint that is just down the stairs. Once you have acquired the waypoint, return to town and restock on supplies.
The Summoner (Quest #5)
- Location – Arcane Sanctuary
- Waypoint – Arcane Sanctuary
- Objective – Find and kill the Summoner
- Reward – Access to the Canyon of the Magi and the knowledge of the correct Tal Rasha’s Tomb Symbol
The Summoner is the fifth quest in Act II. It involves searching the Arcane Sanctuary to find and kill The Summoner. The quest will become active once in range of the Summoner. Once stocked up, return via the waypoint area to the Arcane Sanctuary.
Once inside the sanctuary there are 4 extending paths that the Summoner can spawn at. Work your way through the different paths until you find the correct one.
(Note – If you reach the end of a path and there are only chests, it is faster to open a town portal and return back via the waypoint before choosing another path.) Once the correct path has been chosen and the Summoner has been found, kill him.
Once he is dead, click on the book labeled Horazon’s Journal. This will open a portal to the Canyon of the Magi.
Go through the portal and acquire the Canyon of the Magi Waypoint. Once acquired, return to town and talk to Atma(4) to complete. Make sure to restock on supplies.
The Seven Tombs (Quest #6)
- Location – Canyon of the Magi, Tal Rasha’s Tomb, Tal Rasha’s Chamber
- Waypoint – Canyon of the Magi
- Objective – Find the real Tal Rasha’s Tomb, Place the staff, Kill Duriel
- Rewards – Completion of Act II and passage to Act III
The Seven Tombs is the sixth and final quest of Act II. It involves finding the real Tal Rasha’s Tomb, using the Staff to open it, and killing Duriel. Once you have restocked in town, be sure to have the Horadric Staff on you and return via the waypoint area to the Canyon of the Magi.
Once in the canyon, open your Quest Log(Q) and click on the sixth quest to find out the true symbol for Tal Rasha’s Tomb. Once you know the symbol, head in the direction of the symbol on the map below to find the entrance along the canyon wall.
Once you have entered the correct tomb, work your way through the tomb until you find a room with an elaborate floor with an orifice with light shooting from it (Note – If you find a golden chest you have entered the incorrect tomb. Be sure to recheck the symbol and try again).
Once this room has been found, Open the orifice and place the staff within and click accept.
This should cause the staff to spin around and the symbols will light up and the wall will break exposing the entrance to Tal Rasha’s Chamber.
Before entering the chamber it is recommended to open a town portal for the fact that Duriel is right inside the entrance.
Duriel has a frost attack that will slow you and your attack speed. He also has a stun. He is very strong and uses melee attacks.
Be sure to take him to the far side of the room when fighting in case you die so that when you re-enter the room he doesn’t kill you while you’re loading. After Duriel has been killed, make your way to the back of the room through the opening and talk to Tyreal.
After talking to Tyreal, he will open a portal back to town. Once in town head over to Jerhyn(7) and talk to him to complete the quest. After talking to Jerhyn(7), you can talk to the remaining townsfolk for some story. Once you are done with that, talk to Meshif(8) and choose the option to sail east.
Congratulations on completing Act II. You are now on your way to Kurast in Act III
