Introduction to Cooking in New World
Welcome to the Complete New World Cooking Guide. Cooking is one of the many crafting professions in New World. It is also arguably the most vital and useful of the crafting professions. Cooking feeds into so many benefits for all kinds of things including providing food buffs for the gathering professions of mining, logging, skinning, and harvesting.
As with all crafting professions, you can keep your ingredients in the vault and still craft at the station. Remember this so you can make the most of your crafting time. Save up your ingredients and dump them in the vault, so you can later do a big crafting run! Remember that you will only be able to use the ingredients from the vault at your current Settlement.
With cooking, you can craft foods to help you in a myriad of ways. From health and mana, to gathering skill luck, to increases to your stats. The following section in the Complete New World Cooking Guide contains an easy to digest list of the main uses for food you can cook yourself.
Types of Food Buffs You Can Cook in New World

How to Start Cooking in New World
So you’ve dropped into New World, and you’ve decided to take up your passion of cooking in a video game. Who needs to kill monsters right? Professions are where the fun and profits are! The first thing you need to accomplish in this Complete New World Cooking Guide is collect a few ingredients, then either craft at a campfire, or in a settlement at a Kitchen station.
- Use your skinning profession to skin your first wolf or bear to obtain Game Meat. If you are looking to cook multiple meals, you may decide to hunt many of these animals and skin them all so you have a nice stockpile of supplies for cooking.
- Most starting areas already have a campfire near the first quest giver. You can head to this campfire, or, if you aren’t at a starting zone, you can always use someone else’s campfire or even create you own campfire. Alternatively, if you are near a settlement you can go and find the kitchen there.
The kitchen uses this icon on your map:

3. Now that you are at your campfire or kitchen, press “E” for the default crafting key, and you can craft your first Light Ration. The Light Ration will take just 1x Game Meat to cook. This meal will help you recover health while on your leveling journey.
Every time you cook any recipe, you will always get experience. The experience system does not work like World of Warcraft for example, where if you are cooking low level items, you can’t get experience. You will still always get experience for a craft, but it will usually be more efficient to craft your higher-tier recipes so that you get much more experience out of them.
TIP: If you are cooking at a campfire, you will only ever be able to cook recovery foods or fishing bait. Other foods are not available to cook at a campfire and must use a Kitchen.
How to Level Cooking Fast in New World
If you want to level cooking , this Complete New World Cooking Guide is where you want to be. We’ll walk through each of the stages of cooking, splitting the 200 levels into 4 sections so you can focus on the area you are currently at.
You really can level cooking any way you want. You can make whatever types of food you like and you still still level up. For the purposes of this guide, we will stick to the main ration/meals that increase HP and/or Mana regeneration. You will need these a lot while leveling, so it makes sense to use this as the baseline that everyone will need. Feel free to go off script and cook other meals, but this information is here to provide you some basics.
Tips to Remember to Make The Most of your Time
The key to making the most of this New World Cooking Guide is to kill and skin any animals that produce meat. When you are exploring, questing, or doing anything, always kill and skin what you can, so you have a plentiful stockpile of meat to use for cooking. You should also be harvesting any herbs and plants you see along the way for different spices and ingredients you can use in cooking as well, especially for those vital gathering luck food buffs.
Anything you can harvest will likely be an asset for you in cooking, whether it is herbs, carrots or cabbage at a farm, or fungus that are able to drop mushrooms. Remember, you can keep these ingredients in your vault at your favorite settlements if you are worried about your bags getting too heavy.
When you are crafting each section we breakdown below, our suggestion is that you only use the easier to find ingredients that we mention in each respective section. New World crafting will allow you to use higher-tier cooking ingredients for lower-tier food, but usually this will be a waste as they are likely harder for you to farm and gather. Try to stick to the lowest level of ingredient for the lower levels of cooking if possible. This will allow you to save them for later.

Why Don’t I See Higher Tier Crafts in New World?
If you are looking to cook tier 3, 4, or 5 meals, you may be confused because you don’t see any available to you when you open your crafting window at a Kitchen. Higher tiers of all crafting recipes are only available if the settlement you are in has a Kitchen of the matching tier or higher.
So if you are trying to cook high tier meals in New World, make sure you are in a settlement with a Kitchen tier the same or higher than what you are looking to craft.
