Advance Wars has two modes, Casual or Classic, for players to choose between. But what do these two modes mean, and which one should you pick if you’re starting the new Advance Wars game? This guide will aim to answer that question, so if you’re not sure which to pick, keep reading!
Advance Wars: What is the difference between Casual and Classic?
If you’re unfamiliar with Advance Wars, and this is your first experience of the games, you might be wondering what these two modes are.
When you first launch the game you’ll be prompted to choose between Casual and Classic. As you might be able to guess, Casual is the easier option.
Casual is “for players just starting out”, while Classic is for more experienced players who are “looking for a challenge”. But what changes with each mode, specifically?
On Casual difficulty, you’ll have more units than Classic mode to make missions easier. Enemies will also be a little easier sometimes.
Advance Wars: Which mode should you pick?
Classic mode is the standard Advance Wars experience and is the most similar to how the game originally was. However, you don’t need to have played the original games to play on Classic. If you want a bit of a challenge this mode is ideal, as Casual is a fair amount easier.
If you want to have a relaxing time playing the game, you’ll be better off playing Casual mode. It’s a less stressful experience and doesn’t require quite as much strategy due to your army being a bit bigger and the enemies being a bit weaker.
However, don’t be afraid of picking Classic even if you’re not the greatest at strategy games. It’s a fun challenge to overcome, and not as demanding as other strategy titles. It should still test you – unless you know the originals inside and out.
There’s even a third option, Challenge, which becomes available in Hachi’s Shop after you complete the campaigns on any difficulty. As you might expect, this is the hardest difficulty setting.
