Honkai Star Rail: What is the pity system?
With so many 5-star characters available to pull, a lot of players will be trying their luck on the various banners available in Honkai Star Rail. However, the normal pull rate for these 5-star characters is very low. A miniscule 0.6%, to be precise.
Luckily, the game has a pity system in place. That means after a certain amount of pulls, or “warps” as they’re called in Honkai, you’re guaranteed a 5-star pull.
In Honkai Star Rail, the standard number of pulls before you pull a guaranteed 5-star is 90 pulls. If you don’t pull any 5-stars with your first 89 pulls on a banner, you’ll get a 5-star on the 90th pull.
For example, on the permanent Stellar Warp banner you’re guaranteed to pull either a 5-star character or a 5-star Light Cone every 90 warps. You can still randomly pull them before you reach 90 warps, but random pulls will have the same 0.6% chance.
Honkai Star Rail: 4-star characters pull rates
But what about Honkai‘s 4-star characters? Do they also have a pity system, and what are their pull rates like?
4-star characters have a 5.1% pull rate, while 4-star Light Cones have a 2.55% pull rate. Every 10 pulls you’re guaranteed a 4-star of any kind, so either a character or a Light Cone. This pull also has a small chance of being a 5-star character instead (0.6%).
Some banners have an increased chance of pulling a certain 4-star. For example, the chance of pulling Natasha, Pela or Hook is boosted to 50% for every 4-star pull you get on the Butterfly on Swordtip banner. These kinds of banners are only limited time though.
Those same limited banners have increased chances for certain 5-star characters or Light Cones. Butterfly in Swordtip is a 50% chance to get the character Seele every time you pull a 5-star.
