From the hand of 10 Chambers, a Swedish company founded relatively recently; they finally bring us version 1.0 of their star game GTFO, a title which is full of tension, where you will have to ally yourselves with strangers or your own friends to be able to overcome the horrors that lurk at the bottom of an underground base.
Plot
Four prisoners are awakened from a hydro stasis unit to be forced to complete objectives for an unknown entity, having to overcome waves of enemies to survive and make it to the end in one piece.
The player starts at the level selection menu, being a large-scale map of an underground mining base, which is several levels deep, becoming more complicated the further into the zombie-infested site you go.
Once the level is chosen, the player is transported to a hydro stasis unit, where he and 3 players begin to descend with a hydraulic press to the depths of the base. Stopping on the selected floor, that strange entity will give you the main objective. They will have to start investigating the area in search of what they ask you to find to advance to the next area. And finally, when completing the objective, you will have to escape from the place to start the next mission.
Gameplay
GTFO presents a gameplay system that is quite simple to understand. But hard to carry out without dying trying, being entertaining that way.
The game allows the players to choose whether to do the level stealthily or enter without precautions shooting at everything that moves.
Monsters found in the base will always be in a “sleeping” state, standing still in one place and barely moving. Players should move slowly and without using flashlights. When the players make sudden movements, they will wake up, start to attack, and wake up the others.
The levels have randomly generated during different periods of time, changing the map structure with each restart. So that it is not always the same game experience, adding new levels and challenges to have a refreshing experience. For example: in June, there were a total of 5 tiers, being A, B, C, D, and E, with 13 levels in total. While in December, there are only up to tier D, with 10 levels. On the other hand, the distribution of enemies changes in all the games, being that in a room, there can be 15 enemies. And in the next, there are none.
While investigating the surroundings, players must find keys or perform it is called “Security Scans.” It consists of an alarm that will be activated when you try to open an important door.
Graphics
The setting of the game is excellent. The menu resembles a futuristic computer, requiring you to “link” in order to access the level selector. Once the level begins, you start from that previously mentioned capsule. It is cinematic in which the player can move the camera freely to observe the surroundings. It gives a touch of immersion before starting the game. You can even hear the sound of breathing and desperation of the protagonists when they begin to descend.
The lighting in the game is well done and catches you in totally dark places, where yes or yes, you must turn on the flashlight to see where you are walking or use light bars to see a path.
The HUD is also well done. You can also zoom in on an ally to see the amount of life, ammunition, and other things that they may need to divide the resources found in the level between the players.
Is GTFO worth it?
GTFO is a title that achieves a sense of immersion that not many games do. Weapons and utilities are fun to use, each serving a unique purpose. The enemies build tension every time a door opens, not knowing what they might find. The story manages to be captivating for fans of the details and has a visual quality worthy of an AAA.
This game manages to make a name for itself among many of the titles of this genre. It has characteristics that make it unique and outstanding between others. The setting is captivating: dark places, gloomy and sometimes full of fog, hide many dangers which generate tension in the players.
The combat is pleasant: firing the weapons and hitting the melee feels good. Plus each weapon has different reticles, to have a comfortable and at the same time different feeling with each one of them.
Teamwork is greatly favored, and in my own experience, when pairing up with random people, the community is so friendly and open to helping those who are just starting and being able to make friends quite easily, compared to other games. Without a doubt, it is a title that is worth buying, and you can spend many hours playing it to get the most out of it.
