Call of Duty: Black Ops III’s beta is underway (actually, its been active for select members of the press for a day or two now, but Activision must have forgotten about us…) and with it comes fresh information.
Black Ops III’s multiplayer will probably be the main reason players pick up Treyarch’s third installment in the Black Ops series, so it’s crucial that the bloody things works properly. Thankfully, then, Treyarch has implemented a few new features to the game that should help players who suffer from laggy sessions. In the past it was normal to throw a controller at the window and declare the game a dump if it lagged out on you, but now with the reintroduction of ping numbers, you’ll be able to see if it’s you that’s actually causing the game to lag. Well, not you as a person, but your internet.
The user interface includes some new data sets that are normally found among PC games, and they include ping numbers, ping graphs and even packet loss data so that you can assess your network connection. It should be a much smoother online experience this time around, too, as Treyarch has opted to use dedicated servers for the PS4 version of the game, something that should – in theory – reduce network anomalies.
