Is the hit mobile game Clash Royale pay to win? With many games having microtransactions, it’s always a concern that some games like Clash Royale might have pay-to-win features. Does the game have any kind of pay-to-win in it?
Clash Royale: Is it pay to win?
Pay to win refers to the ability to pay for power in a video game. For example, a game might allow a player to directly pay for things like upgrades, perks or other things that give them an advantage over a player who hasn’t paid or unlocked for them.
Unfortunately, Clash Royale is a pay-to-win game. That means players who pay will have a direct advantage over players who don’t. But how is Clash Royale a pay-to-win game?
Well, one way in which players can pay for an advantage is by purchasing a battle pass. Progressing through these battle passes will grant the player more special challenges which unlock extra rewards. These rewards can then be used against players who might not have paid, and are at a disadvantage.
You can also buy gems and use them in other challenges, buy more gold to upgrade your army or spells and unlock special chests that only paying players have access to regularly. You can even purchase certain cards directly in a rotating store, while free-to-play players will have to wait before getting everything they want.
Clash Royale: Can you still play for free?
Can you still play Clash Royale for free and have a good time? That depends on how much you dislike the pay-to-win aspect of the game.
It’s possible to play for free and have a good time, and thousands of players likely do. But if you can’t shake the feeling that you’ll be at a disadvantage without paying, it may not be a good game to get into.
Thankfully, not all games are like this and there are plenty of options for mobile games that don’t feature pay-to-win mechanics. And you may still be able to find some fun as a free-to-play player.
