Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – How to go Shield Surfing
The first thing you’ll need to shield surf, obviously, is a shield. This can be basically any shield you want, so pick one to start with.
Then, find a downhill slope of any kind. Shield Surfing only works if you’re heading downhill, as the slope will carry you forward with momentum.
Hold down ZL to hold your shield out. With your shield out, press X to jump and then immediately hit the A button while you’re in the air. If you time it right you should do a flip onto your shield and start moving downhill.
You can steer while Shield Surfing, making it an effective way to quickly get to where you need to go (if it’s somewhere downhill, at least). But be warned, your shield will lose durability while you’re surfing on it.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Fusing shields
Shield Surfing has been updated a bit in Tears of the Kingdom compared to Breath of the Wild. Now you can use Fuse to attach items to your shield, which affects your surfing abilities.
If you attach a bomb to your shield and then perform a shield surf jump, the bomb will explode and shoot you upwards. This is extremely cool-looking if you pull it off correctly.
There are lots of combinations for you to try out, adding even more layers to the game’s sandbox. The possibilities are almost endless!
