Marvel Snap Klyntar: Backstory
The new location Klyntar comes alongside the addition of the Symbiote card, and for good reason. For all intents and purposes, Klyntar is the homeworld of the Symbiotes in the Marvel universe. This means characters like Venom and Carnage trace their history back to this planet, but there is much more to the story.
As mentioned, Klyntar isn’t a typical planet. In fact, Klyntar is itself an enormous mass of Symbiotes, around which rocks and space debris have formed. As such, Klyntar outwardly appears like a rocky, desert planet, but beneath the crust is a living mass of Symbiotes. This is all because the planet was formed as the throneworld of the god of the Symbiotes, Knull.
Klyntar was the seat of power from which Knull waged war against the Celestials, until the Symbiotes turned on him and trapped him within the planet. Hence the name, as Klyntar means cage in the Symbiote language. Knull is a character that came to prominence as the primary antagonist of last year’s big event series, the King in Black. In this story, Knull reclaimed power over the Symbiotes and escaped captivity. Knull then came to earth to face off against the most prominent Symbiote in all of Marvel, Venom.

Marvel Snap Klyntar: Location Ability
The ability on the Klyntar location card reads; “After turn four, merge your cards here into a Symbiote.” This doesn’t fully explain what happens, so let’s break it down. At the end of turn four, a Symbiote card appears on Klyntar for both players. Initially, the Symbiote is a one-cost card with no power at all.
All the cards present on Klyntar will be merged into the Symbiote, meaning they will be replaced by a single card that contains the combined power of each of the cards that were merged. The Symbiote does not take on any abilities, simply the combined power numbers of each card. This makes it a great way to use cards with negative effects but high power.
The Symbiote’s biggest weakness is the fact it only costs one point. This makes it susceptible to cards like Killmonger which destroy low-cost cards. There are a number of cards that can be used to counter and destroy the Symbiote, so putting all your power into one card can be dangerous. Playing into this strategy is a risk, but the reward can leave you with a massively powerful card.
