America loves spying. Like seriously, they can’t get enough of it. They’ve tapped the phones of some of the world leaders including Germany’s Premier Angela Merkel, they’ve been snooping through Google and Facebook servers (supposedly) and to top it all off they want to know what you and your buddies chat about when you play Call of Duty.
A new Bill is currently being passed through the US government that would allow unlimited access to, but not limited to, every U.S gamers digital doings.
The point? That’s not clear, but it’s certainly disconcerting for your average American. Remember when Microsoft wanted the Xbox One to come bundled with Kinect that would always be listening, people didn’t like that. Privacy is one of the few things anybody will sell and gamers made that known with their vocal dissatisfaction with the Kinect and Xbox One duo, maybe it’s time they stood up again and made themselves known in the name of privacy.
There is of course some merit to being able to listen in to the conversations of gamers. Some online games have become breeding grounds for illicit activity, but not every game is full of would-be terrorists or criminals looking to hang out, do a raid and discuss how best to blow up a major landmark.
What do you think? Is it a step too far by the US government? Or would you feel safe in knowing that there’s somebody listening in to your fruity conversations? Let us know down in the comments section below.
