Millions of children around the world spend hours building and creating in Minecraft everyday, as such, Google has created qCraft. A Minecraft plugin aimed at inspiring the children of today to become the quantum computer scientists of tomorrow.
Minecraft mods like Tekkit and Hexxit already allow players to create space shuttles to fly to the moon, create programmable computers, and create large-scale industrial factories and refineries. qCraft will now let you manipulate the world the with quantum mechanical effects. “It lets players experiment with quantum behaviors inside Minecraft’s world, with new blocks that exhibit quantum entanglement, superposition, and observer dependency. ”
qCraft is by no means a perfect simulation, as the underlying quantum mechanics in our universe are still not fully understood. But the mod should help players discover and explore the micro-macro world relationship and behaviours previously only physicists could understand. Upcoming builds will soon to allow the ability to conduct the Schrodinger’s Cat experiment, previewed in this video:
Qcraft is free and available to anyone who owns a Minecraft or MinecraftEdu license and it is already included with the latest versions of Tekkit and Hexxit. More info at http://qcraft.org/.
