News: Gran Turismo 6 Announced, Coming This Christmas

granturismo6In what has got to be the least surprising announcement of the year, Sony and Polyphony Digital officially unveiled the next installment in the Gran Turismo series; Gran Turismo 6.

The announcement came as no surprise really, the leaks and promotional material that have fluttered about online have hinted toward the hotly anticipated title for weeks, if not months.

The latest entry in the racing-simulation series is set to release on the PlayStation 3 during the “holiday season” which is around Christmas time for us non-american folk.

The announcement was made on the 15th anniversary of the Gran Turismo series at the iconic Silverstone racing track which will feature in Gran Turismo 6, as well as boasting a roster of over 1200 cars.

There was no mention of the flagship franchise making its way onto the PS4, but I think we’ll see something down the line. Hopefully…

Gran Turismo is Sony’s best-selling series, after 15 years on the market the franchise has sold over 70 million copies, impressive.

  1. I hope that GT manages to make it’s way to the Vita. If they are concerned with the digital only controls, make the right analog stick the throttle and brake. Simple enough, Motorstorm RC makes good use of that. While I do find GT to be a little boring and dry, I recognize how popular it is and how well it sells. I sure do hope that a Vita port gets made. Heck, if it’s good, I’ll even buy it. I bought it for PSP and though I disliked the lack of progression, I thought the racing aspect of it was pretty good. I just like my racers a bit more arcadey.
