EA’s Battlefield Hardline isn’t even close to being released, it’s coming early next year, but that hasn’t stopped retailers from selling you the pre-orders.
The good news is that you have options, the bad news is that the days of getting a game on release day and knowing that you would be on the same even playing field as everybody else online is gone.
Amazon UK will supply you with the Suppression Battlepack DLC which contains an assault rifle, some unique camo and an in-game XP boost. You’ll get this with any platform you get Battlefield Hardline
for, so that covers the last-gen and the new-gen consoles.
The total cost from Amazon UK? It’s not too bad for an upcoming AAA title, especially for the next-gen. The PS4 and Xbox One version of Battlefield Hardline will set you back £44.86 whilst the PS3 and Xbox 360 counterparts will cost you a solid £42.
Meanwhile dedicated video game retailer GAME is also offering exclusive DLC for those who place their pre-order with them, offering the Precision Battlepack DLC.
So what is in the Precision Battlepack? It’s more of the same really. You get a rifle, some in-game camo and an XP boost to give you the upper hand online. Pricing? GAME will sell you the next-gen version for £47.99, or you can get a last-gen copy for £42.99.
Pre-ordering a game used to be a necessity if you wanted to guarantee your copy on release day. Back in the day if you didn’t pre-order there was a legitimate chance you wouldn’t be able to get your hands on a copy for a few weeks.
Nowadays pre-ordering isn’t about guaranteeing you’ll have a copy on release day, it’s a way of paying for some in-game items to give you the upper hand in multiplayer. It’s all a bit sad really.
What do you think of pre-orders? Waste of time, or worthy purchases? Set your sights on the comments section and fire of a round or two.
Battlefield Hardline is set to release sometime in the Spring of 2015 for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
