Pikmin 4‘s release date is right around the corner, and we have all the gameplay info you need.
Pikmin 4 is finally coming to Switch after a long wait, and it’s an exciting time for fans of the franchise. There’s a lot to talk about with this game, so let’s get started!
Pikmin 4: What’s the release date?
If you’re excited about Pikmin 4, good news! The release date has been confirmed for July 21st 2023. That means we’ll be blasting off to the world of Pikmin 4 this summer.
It’s been a long wait for this game’s release date to be announced. We learned about a new Pikmin game in development years ago, and then Nintendo didn’t give us any updates for a long time. In fact, all the way back in 2015, we learned that development was supposedly nearing completion.
At long last, we learned about the July 21st release date in a Nintendo Direct presentation. That same Direct gave us a trailer with some gameplay of Pikmin 4, revealing some of the new features and creatures heading to Switch soon.
Pikmin 4: Gameplay and trailers
The first Pikmin 4 trailer was released in 2022, but it didn’t show much of the game. The first real gameplay trailer arrived in February 2023’s Nintendo Direct and revealed Pikmin 4‘s release date.
From that trailer, we learned that the game looks similar to Pikmin 3 (with better visuals of course). It’ll feature full 360 camera movement and players will be “playing from the Pikmin’s perspective” according to developer Shigeru Miyamoto.
The game features all kinds of Pikmin, including Red, Blue, Yellow, White, Purple, Rock, Winged and the new Ice Pikmin. These Ice Pikmin can freeze enemies and create paths for you to cross water.
There’s also a new dog-like companion called Oatchi. You can ride this creature across water, use it to smash through blockades and move enemies around.
We don’t know much about the story yet, but we do know that it features multiple characters and the return of boss fights.
