10 tips for Clash Royale beginners
Offence with brains
Building a powerful deck filled with different offensive units that cover all areas of attack is all good and fine, but what most players don’t keep track of is the Elixir cost.

When being offensive, your goal should be to destroy the Princess Towers before the King’s Tower to make sure you don’t trigger the cannons, as in most situations, it will force you to switch to defence.
If you find yourself with a bad card, you can always wait and save Elixir while keeping tabs on which card the opponent is playing. When the opponent plays its card, you counter it with a card that costs less Elixir. This brings us to our next tip.
The battle of Elixirs
Clash Royale is primarily a battle of Elixirs! You have a maximum of ten Elixir, and your troops use a certain amount of Elixir for being deployed. On the same note, the Elixir generates overtime during the match. So, using your cards wisely and ensuring you don’t run out of Elixir will help you counter incoming attacks.
As we said earlier, you always counter your opponents’ cards with ones that cost less Elixir. By doing so, you will have more Elixir than your opponent. Once you have a considerable difference, perform the final offensive push, and your opponent will have no Elixir to counter it.
Card placements play a vital role
While building your deck in Clash Royale, place your cards in an order where you can quickly deploy them for offence or defence. Placing high Elixir cost cards back to back will empty your Elixir storage, giving your opponent a chance to attack.
Do not waste Gold or Gems
In the early game, one mistake every player makes in Clash Royale is using currencies like Gold to upgrade useless cards and Gems to open chests that don’t have a good card pool. Instead, save them and use them at a later point in the in-game store or high-level chests to get good cards and then use the Gold to upgrade them.
Violence is not the only option
Sometimes, instead of paying attention to just offence, you must strategically use defensive measures like placing a building in front of King’s and Princess Towers. You can then use defensive troops and a support unit, placing long-range units behind King’s Tower, and other things to bolster your defences to create an opening for an attack.
Planning your attacks
It would be best to plan your attacks per the opponent’s deck. Let’s say your opponent has a counter for the Hog Rider. So, instead of using the Hog Rider, getting countered and thinking about why it didn’t work out. Try to make the opponent use the counter beforehand.

As soon as your opponent uses it, you can use the Hog Rider as your opponent will not be able to counter it. This is just a tiny example of what we meant by saying to plan your attacks.
Counting Elixirs
Pay more attention to your opponent’s attacks and count their Elixir cost during fights. Elixir fills very slowly, and there are many times when the opponent uses a series of cards that cost them a hefty amount of Elixir, recovering from which takes time.
That is why you must always count the Elixir your opponent has used. When the opponent has a low Elixir, you can unleash a series of attacks that your opponent cannot counter because of the insufficient Elixir.
Knowing how to counter different cards
You must know about the different cards, what they do in the game and every card that can counter that particular card, especially those that use less Elixir. For example:
- You can counter a Troop like P.E.K.K.A using Knight, Skeletons, Barbarians, Goblins, and such others.
- Using Fireball against Barbarians and Goblins
- Use Rocket to deal with spawners
- Dealing with Skeletons using the Zap spell and so on.
Have patience, and do not mindlessly use your troops
Waiting out and playing mind games with your opponent is the best way of winning matches. Most new Clash Royale players use a Tank followed by standard offensive units. This strategy will not work out as players can easily counter it.
Sometimes it’s better to have a good deck, use a few units to check your opponent’s response, try acting as a newbie, and when they have their guard down, use planned attacks and be ready for the counter.
Building and testing a variety of decks while focusing on synergies
As a new player, you can always check out the different decks the Clash Royale community is testing or build your own to see if they work well for you.
Building decks while keeping card synergies in mind will help you make a great deck that is good for both offence and defence and where each card supports the other card.
For example, using P.E.K.K.A and Valkyrie, the Inferno Dragon and Wizard, Miner and Goblin Barrel, and so on.
